About SOWC

The African Leadership University (ALU) School of Wildlife Conservation (SOWC), founded in 2016, is an important contributor to the University’s mission of educating ethical and entrepreneurial leaders and addressing the most significant challenges and opportunities on the continent. SOWC shares the larger educational goals and approach of the University —accessibility, mission-driven learning through doing—whilst focusing on the education of leaders in the business of conservation and on research that can help shape conservation-related policy and practice decisions in the years ahead.  SOWC prioritizes exposing students to new and evolving concepts such as circular economy and conservation technology, to ensure they are equipped with the right tools and knowledge for their future workplaces. At present SOWC is the only institution working at scale across Africa to generate evidence-based insights into the wildlife economy and to advise national governments from a wildlife economy policy perspective. The goal of SOWC is to provide education in the business of, and best practices in wildlife conservation to students ranging from undergraduates at ALU, to students pursuing the MBA at the ALU School of Business to managers, professionals, and policy-makers working in areas related to conservation and the business of conservation.
