Doreen is the Deputy Director for the Ecosystems Division in UNEP in Nairobi Kenya, overseeing work in biodiversity, land degradation, marine and freshwater, regional seas and disasters and conflict. Previously, she was the Branch Chief for Biodiversity and Land within the Division, responsible for biodiversity, one health, sustainable food systems transformation and support to nature related multi-lateral environmental agreements. She joined UNEP in 2018 as the Chief of the Wildlife Unit. Doreen served in global, regional and national leadership positions for USAID for nearly two decades, including serving as Regional Director for the Agency’s biodiversity, water, climate adaptation, and energy programs in 14 countries in Southern Africa and serving as the Director of Environment, Rural Development and Food Security in Madagascar. She worked with civil society organizations earlier in her career, including World Wildlife Fund and humanitarian response NGOs spanning a range of locations around the world. She holds degrees in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development from the University of Maryland and Animal Science from Cornell University.
