Dr Arthur Tuda is the Executive Director of the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), where he champions science-driven ocean conservation across the Western Indian Ocean.
With over 20 years of experience in marine governance, he works at the intersection of the blue economy, policy reform, and science–policy integration—helping countries turn ocean knowledge into practical conservation and development action. He has advised governments and regional institutions on marine spatial planning, transboundary conservation, and strengthening the effectiveness of marine protected areas.
Dr Tuda leads the Western Indian Ocean Marine Conservation Programme (MARCOP), a UN Ocean Decade–endorsed initiative supporting countries to deliver on the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, especially the 30×30 target.
At the Business of Conservation Conference 2026, he will unpack why the blue economy is central to nature-based economies—and why healthy oceans are indispensable for financing and achieving nature-positive growth.
