Martin Potgieter started his career 30 years ago as an investment actuary and spent the last 20 years as a private equity practitioner in both London and South Africa. From 2008 until 2022 he was the co-Head of Principal Investments at RMB. However, he has always led a bit of a double life. He’s been an amateur arborist since the age of four, which led to him becoming an obsessed birder as well. These two interests have led him to every corner of Southern and Eastern Africa in search of new trees and birds and thereby a deep understanding of biodiversity and conservation in these areas. Two years ago he decided to combine his two passions and skillsets of investing and biodiversity to build RMB’s Natural Capital business.
