David Akana currently serves as the Director of Programs for Mongabay Africa, overseeing the organization's expansion in Africa. He holds two master’s degrees in Mass Communications and Business and International Relations. With over twenty five years of experience in journalism and international communications, David is also a member of the steering council of the Global Commons Alliance and serves as a co-chair of the Strategic Communications group of the UN Oceans Decade. His work has involved advancing development finance communications at the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the African Union, and CORAF.
